Parts to create the astonishing
Tit-Cubes 'Ibelnest':
- boxes from milk or juice
- board to fix the boxes
- tacker or short nails with larger heads
- birdseed
- liquid warm (not heat) fat from the fryer or
meat-fondue
- nets from lemons, tangerines
etc
- string,
strong thread
The boxes were fixed with a tacker or nails on a board
which cannot tip over.
Additional neighboured boxes were tied together, due
to security. In the beginnings
at the end of the last century we did so, but today we
make smaller units without additional fixing.
We work with fat which is only warm, but not hot. Now
we fill the boxes with birdseed up to a
height a bit less than an imagined cube (in Gemany
today the cubes have a square base)
Now we fill the boxes carefully with a small ladle and
stir with a spoon, so that the fat is spread
symmetrical and the birdseed doesn't begin to swin so
that not all of the lighter seeds swim above.
If the fat is too hot, some seeds will react like
popcorn - pay attention!
After this, you let all get cold, which is not
difficult in winter. Pay attention,
that this will happen on a place where kids, cats,
dogs etc. have no access.

Und nun zum Finish:
Nach dem Erkalten werden die
Quader vorsichtig einzeln herausgelöst und sorgfältig
in die
auf 'links' gewendeten Netze verschnürt. Die
überstehenden Reste der Netze werden sauber
abgeschnitten.
Die fertigen Tit-Cubes werden nun in Sträucher oder
Bäume gehängt. Bitte darauf achten,
dass die Tit-Cubes nicht zu nah am Boden sind (wegen
Katze und Elster), sich frei drehen
können, aber möglichst nahe an kleinen Ästchen sind,
damit auch nicht ganz so gewandte Vögel
heranreichen.
Ihr werdet erstaunt sein, wieviele Kleinvogel-Arten
sich im Laufe der Zeit auf den Tit-Cube
herauftrauen - die kleinen Piepser sind
überraschenderweise lernfähig! - Vielleicht, weil sie
einfach
entspannter, ohne Angst vor Katze, Elster und Amsel,
futtern können.
Und es funktioniert, wie jedes
Jahr; leider nur gleichzeitig zwei Spatzen erwischt,
sind ja gesellige Vögel ...
